I am a painter
this is a short excerpt from I am a painter, the film i showed the stills from below. it’s still work in progress but it’s pretty much there. it’s an aleatoric film, programmed in max/msp/jitter which uses the rgb channels of bits of old film from my grandad’s 1950s work trips. the sound is from a max/msp based soundtrack that composes itself as the film does the same....

I recently jumped into the world of Ableton Live, having been living in Logic land for a long time and I have to say they complement each other perfectly. Live is just such a great, intuitive, sketchpad and bringing things into Logic afterwards lets me mess with the ableton-y structure of things a bit, develop it and edit down. Lots of fun.

explanation
the images below are screengrabs from an aleatoric film made with max/msp/jitter. i’ve used run-offs from old cine film that my grandad took all over the place and got them down to 7 separate films. i’ve then split them into their constituent red, green and blue layers and played them in a programmatic sequence over the top of each other in 3 modules with the colours going out of sync....

it's been a long time...
I’ve been guiltily ignoring this blog so I think 2010 will see me using it in a more casual way, as a little sketchbook and repository of various bits and bobs. Also it’s a good place to write about work in progress so I’ll be doing that a bit in the near future…

sonifying the internet
My career so far has grown from designing sound and sound systems for the internet and so I thought I’d like to jot down a few notes on why my experiences of this have become such a major force in my creative practice. The internet has lots of people on it and I needed to make sound and music for them. I started off making loops, composing little bits of music that would cycle round in the...
hello!
A brief post to introduce myself and the blog. I’m Owen Lloyd, a composer, researcher and sound artist. This is my blog. I’m very new to this and therefore it may be a touch trying but bear with it and hopefully fruit will be borne. I’m aiming to use this space to shove stuff. I may also talk about things that divert me, they could be pieces of music or art, films, books, websites etc…...
